Everlasting education

We should continue our education all the time.

Yes, I know, I have written this before and many people have been writing things like these before, but its only now I fully got it.

An education is not simply a lifetime experience. This is to general.

An education is specific. It deals with formal courses with a kind of program conceived by experts for other people who are not yet experts but who are willing to become ones.

When you come to class and listen to an unstructured flow of thoughts, ideas and examples this is not a lecture. It is an artist's talk. That's not bad, but education is different.

An education is not optional. I mean when you assign to course you should learn how to do something. If you don't you will not pass.

An education as everlasting process means that we should permanently take structured courses prepared by experts.

Structure is the basics

The differences between Newtonian Physics and Quantum Physics provide a metaphor for understanding a difference between an outlining an academic essay's structure and actually writing it. 

The structure is governed by laws of logics, but writing, I mean relay good one, is a mystics.

I don't know how it happens. The inspiration just come and then I do it same way as I breath. The music helps me to catch up. Each one can develop its trigger.

On the other hand, inspiration without structure will not lead you to far. You can write few paragraphs out of nothing but when you don't know what next thing you need to write you will fail.

After all, this is an academic writing. You are not writing just to write, but to inform, and, thus, structure is the basics.

Learn it first. There are a bunch of on-line courses about this. I was just thinking to inspire you.

The illusion of time

Calendars are misleading. They show days, but, when it comes to a project, they would better show productive hours instead.

Consider this math. If according to your calendar only three weeks left, how much time for your project do you really have ? At least three days should be subtracted from 21 because of holidays. But 18 days that left value not more than 5 hour each of productive work. (Lets be realistic when it comes to creativity and intensive workout more than 5 hours per each 24 hardly possible). So 18x5=90. Ninety hours that's what you really have for you project, when according to calendar three weeks left.

We have less time, than calendars tell us.

Ось розмова з Тіомті Снайдером на Громадському, записана ще в травні 2014: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xfr_laMkn3Q . На 4:04 він дуже досутпно пояснює, що Україна не просто між сходом і заходом, а між двох систем. В західній системі основне це закони і межі, а в російській системі амбіції та імперія.

Думю з його боку це був комплімент. Україна не на розломі, ми по тамтой бік межі. В нашому суспільстві амбіції важливіші за закони.

Швидкі тестові питання: ви готові відмовитись від "відмінно" в атестаті заради чесного складання іспиту? А від стипендії заради дотримання правил? Що краще швидкий успіх чи може чисте сумління?

За всі роки викладання ще ні разу не бачив, щоб на іспиті ніхто не скористався шпаргалкою. Зі своїх студентських років пригадую, що сам це постійно робив. Зрештою хіба викладачі кращі за студентів в дотриманні правил? Та вони перші переступають всі реальні та віртуальні межі, коли справа доходить до кар’єри та матеріальної вигоди.

То звідки почати наводити порядок? Найчастіша відповідь, яку я чую, що почитанти треба із себе. І люди у Львові, які тепер терпеливо стоять на світлофорі на червоне світло, хоча на дорозі і близько не видно жоного авто, свідчення того, що хтось таки наводить порядок із собою. Але цього не достатньо. Бо як не можливо побутувати комунізм в окремо взятій країні, так і не достатньо навести порядок з окремим індивідом. Якщо цей індивід не почне наводити поряок довкола себе, то його дуже швидко поглине безпорядок інших.

Отже, не достатньо самому дотримуватись правил, потірбно добиватись щоб правил дотримувались ті, хто поруч. Ось ця друга частина в нашому випадку особливо складна, бо в нашій культурі з дитинства людей привчають "ти сі туди не пхай, нашо тобі то треба?".

Всі наші революції були боротьбою за порядок на макро рівні суспільних відносин, бо в його відсутності корінь олігархії, корупції і такої разючої соціальної нерівності, якої немає в жодній країні Європи.

 

As much as you are

What if people around you, in the same cause, are not willing to take any commitment and make any investment?

Does it mean that the cause is not really important to them, or they just lack the very notion of both commitment and investment?

Or, may be, the problem is in you? Because if you consider this cause worthy enough why don't you look for some other people willing to fight for it as much as you are?
